Happy Birthday, Ainsley

Mound system

As part of our closing agreement, our home got a new "mound" system (septic). At first it was an eyesore, and much bigger than expected. But it's growing grass now and looking a lot better. I'm excited for when I can start to mow it. Should be akin to down-hill skiing.

A Tired Girl

Ainsley was a very tired girl the day her Daddy came home from Milwaukee.

Heartbeat

Yesterday, we went in for our 3 month check-up. Everything is going great. We got to see the baby look like a baby for the first time and hear the heartbeat. Goosebumps.

Shuttle Launch

Carla was doing a better job than I was of keeping an eye on the news. Yesterday the shuttle launched into space after months of delay. She grabbed me and we ran outside. Sure enough, we could see the shuttle going up from our house. I'm not going to embed a slideshow this time because it doesn't do the pictures justice. Click below to visit our web album. GoDaddy.. not so grrr

Who knew GoDaddy pays attention to the little guy. After my (public) grumbling a few weeks ago I got a call from a Go Daddy representative. First to warn me I wasn't allowed to block their ads (oops.) Second to let me find an alternative to their ad-sponsored free site. Since I don't get a lot of traffic, nor use anything but Blogger, it was very nice of them to offer to set me up using Blogger's hosting services. He walked me through the very complicated domain set up on their end. Sadly, Blogger tries to walk you through it but I was very confused by the end. If you didn't notice, for about two weeks robandcarla.net was down, however. Blogger wouldn't let me publish to anything but robandcarla.blogspot.com. I had to wade through a ton of online help files (mostly this site, very good resource if you can figure out where to start: here ) to find the one setting that was messing everything up. Comment here if you want to know exactly what I ended up doing. But we...

GoDaddy... grrr

I didn't know this, but GoDaddy doesn't have "free" hosting anymore. Well, they do, but they were about to charge me for what I had. I ended up having to back up my site, cancel my hosting account, create their "free" one and upload what I backed up. The reason I put free in quotes, is this site is now funded by the lovely advertising you see at the top. Grrr.. And they also charge for email addresses now. So much for having everything included with domain registration. When I started this site I had all sorts of plans, but really it became just easier to use Blogger. I see Google offers free email hosting and web hosting with Blogger, as long as I try not to get too fancy. I'll probably try it out when I have more time, but I did just pay for two more years of robandcarla.net. I really shouldn't complain. GoDaddy's been pretty good over the years and their customer service has been awesome. You just get used to some things being free...

It's amazing to me that computers work at all

I've tried to say this myself on several occasions: If you really think about it, the fact that anything on a computer works is amazing. At a low level, magnets read and write ones and zeros on ridiculously fast rotating platters, and then are assembled into files, which then is stored in memory, which is then passed through a video card and converted into some format that can be displayed on a screen. Throw in networked computers and the potential for signal loss over long distances and the probability that something at some point in the process will fail, and the potential for failure increases exponentially. Maybe I'm alone, but I'm in awe of the fact that my computer doesn't just randomly catch fire and explode.       - Jake Vinson I came across this today on one of my favorite sites: Worse Than Failure . A geeky site that essentially pokes fun of the mistakes other programmers make. It's good to keep for programmers because they never want to see their...

Sigh.

Ah-Choo!!!

Here is a list of all the things I am allergic to: Trees : Cedar, Cypress, Box Elder, Pepper Tree, Australian Pine, Oak Live, Sweet Gum, Bayberry, American Sycamore, Black Willow, American Elm, and Hackberry. Grasses : Perennial Rye, Timothy, and Bermuda. Weeds : Lambs Quarter, Pigweed, Nettle, Short Ragweed, Marsh Elder, Sage Brush, English Plantain, and Dock Sorrel. Animals : Cat Hair, Dog, and Horse. Others : Penicillium, Dust Mites. So, if you see me sniffle or cough, it's unlikely that I'm sick. I'm probably just suffering from one of my 28 known allergies. ;)
